Macromedia Flash is a program that creates multimedia applications and content that work on many different platforms, even hand-held computers.
According to Macromedia, the Flash Player is installed on 97% of all Internet-enabled desktop computers and as such is the most widely-used software on the planet. There may be some hyperbole there, but there is no doubt that Flash is an excellent tool for building web application front-ends, high-impact website user interfaces, interactive online advertising, and short-form to long-form animation. Flash supports MP3 audio and full-motion video. Macromedia now also builds into Flash a technology called ActionScript that allows the web designer to build custom web applications with minimal scripting. These scripts can control forms, databases, etc. Another feature in the new version of Flash is that it has built-in Unicode support, so the web designer can create the same page in multiple languages.
