FORMS: CGI, PERL, AND MORE

Forms are the most common way to make a web site interactive. Many of the functions that we take for granted on the Internet, from surveys and guestbooks to e-commerce, are created with forms. With forms, you get input from the user in order to provide a customized response or just to collect data for later use. The form results can be exported to many different applications, such as Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel as well as plain text and email. Check out the simple form at the bottom of this page for an example.

Forms generally use the Common Gateway Interface. CGI is a standard for interfacing external applications with information servers, such as HTTP or Web servers. A plain HTML document is static, which means it exists in a constant state and does not change. A CGI program, on the other hand, is executed in real-time, so that it can output dynamic information.

PERL is the most commonly used program for creating applications that run on the server to process your forms. If you have a web site already but just want to add interactivity to that site, we can help you out. Some of the applications of forms, CGI, and our PERL programs include:

  • Email
  • Online Surveys
  • Sweepstakes
  • Shopping Carts and e-Commerce
  • Custom PERL Programming
    (Billing, Payment Interface, etc.)
  • Custom PHP Programming
    (Databases, Inventory, etc.)
