Content Management Systems
Content management systems, or CMS’s, are systems for web publishing that allow a website’s owner(s) to add content, such as articles, photos, videos, etc., quickly and easily without knowing how anything about web design. Stackle Box Design can set CMS on your website, and you will do the rest.
Stackle Box Design recommends the following:
WordPress In our opinion, this is the best CMS out there right now. It is open source and has a very large community continually improving it. WordPress started as a blogging program but can now be used as a full-fledged content management system. Companies as large as the Wall Street Journal, MTV, and Best Buy are using WordPress for parts of their sites. In addition to the core WordPress program, there is an extensive library of plugins to add features, such as media handling, and many themes to improve the look of the site.
Drupal Another great open source CMS. It is especially good for sites that change very frequently and receive heavy traffic. Companies such as Rutgers University, Mattel, and the Emmy Awards use Drupal. However, owners of small websites may find Drupal overwhelming. It features the use of add-on modules to extend the basic program for media, e-commerce, etc. It also has a library of themes to change the look of a website.
Blogger The blogging program owned by Google. This is only a blogging program, and some people find it lacking in features. But as part of the Google world, it is well documented and supported. It is very easy to get started, especially for people who already have a Google account.
